Dr. Po-Xing Zheng received his B.S. in Life Science from Tzu Chi University and his M.S. in Microbiology and Immunology from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan. He obtained his Ph.D. in Basic Medical Sciences from NCKU in 2015. He began his research career at the Center of Infectious Disease and Signaling Research, NCKU, where he investigated microbial pathogenesis and pioneered the application of CRISPR genotyping in Streptococcus using rigorous wet-lab validation.
In 2017, Dr. Zheng joined the Agricultural Biotechnology Research Center (ABRC), Academia Sinica, where he currently serves as an Associate Researcher. Uniquely positioned at the interface of computational biology and experimental science, he integrates data science with molecular biology to address complex genomic challenges. Leveraging over a decade of wet-lab experience, Dr. Zheng specializes in designing project-specific analytical frameworks and bespoke long-read sequencing protocols for recalcitrant plant tissues.
His research focuses on crop genome evolution and stress resilience, specifically within Brassicaceae, Solanaceae, and Musa. He utilizes genomic modeling, AI-driven phenomics, and comparative genomics to uncover the genetic basis of complex traits. Notable contributions include identifying the regulatory role of transposons in flowering genes and developing automated hyperspectral imaging algorithms for early heat-stress detection. In addition to his research, Dr. Zheng is dedicated to bridging the gap between wet-lab biology and computational analysis through active mentoring and organizing training on next-generation sequencing and AI applications in agriculture.
